Ice Cream, Mac N' Cheese, Chocolate Milk

I had quite the scare this week.  I look forward to Monday's because it's my day off and I get to be with Silas all day.  This past Monday we had no appointments, no scheduled phone calls, nothing going on.  I was really looking forward to just hanging out with my baby.  I decided that it would be a good idea to begin the transition to a formula that is dairy-based.  The Dr. suggested we do this after he turned 6-months.  Silas is over 7-months old now so I thought I would finally do it.  So I bought some Gerber 'Soothe' formula.  I mixed his carrots and oatmeal like I normally do.  I even prepared his pears because he seemed a little fussy (teething).  He loves the cold pears on his gums.  I began to feed him and he just didn't seem interested in eating.  So I gave him the bottle which contained 2 scoops of his old stuff and 1 scoop of the new Gerber.  He gobbled those 6-ounces down so quick!  After he was finished I was cleaning him up and he began to throw up.  Violently throw up.  It was so bad I was pulling the phlegm out of his mouth and holding him upside down to get it all out.  This happened several times.  He was having a hard time breathing because he kept throwing up.  I thought he was done so we went into the bathroom to get cleaned up.  He threw up more.  I began to take his clothes off and he was all red.  He was getting a severe rash and his face was super red beginning to swell.  I was panicking at this point.  This all went down in 10 minutes.  I remember calling my Mom, Nick, and Heidi.  Heidi told me to call 911 so I did.  There were about 8 paramedics and 4 cops in the condo.  By this time Silas wasn't getting worse but was still in bad shape.  They hooked up his carrier to the stretcher, I jumped in the ambulance and we sat there for a few minutes while they tried to find a vein for the IV to give him Benadryl.  They couldn't find one so they began to drive to Children's.

Both Nick's met me there.  They put a little hospital gown on and gave him Benadryl orally.  He was already doing so much better.  I'm pretty sure he puked everything up and some.  Surprisingly we weren't there for a long time, we got discharged about 12:30 and had arrived around 10am.  Here's a picture of my baby laying in the hospital bed.  I put his own clothes on after we knew we were going home.

We saw his Pediatrician this week.  We're going to see an allergy specialist but basically Silas won't have any dairy until he is 1 years old.  I'm hoping he outgrows it.  I can't imagine a life without Ice Cream, Mac N' Cheese, and washing it all down with a big glass of Chocolate Milk.  On top of the allergic reaction, he has an ear infection and bronchialitis.  I'm pretty sure I have that too.  I've been sick since Sunday and it appears to have only gotten worse.  We'll see how I feel but I might have to see the Dr. tomorrow.  If I do this is probably what she'll say:

Besides the crazy week, we're looking forward to the weekend!  Nick and I are both off tomorrow.  Sunday will be nice to see his family for dinner and we'll do brunch at Heidi's.  HAPPY EASTER!
