Having full responsibility for another human being that I love more than I ever thought possible can be tough. Recently we had to make the decision to get or not get Silas the Doc Band (helmet). We took him in for a consultation and the measurements showed that he had moderate
Brachycephaly with Plagiocephaly. Big words that I can't even pronounce but essentially he has a flat spot on one side of his head with some flatness at the base of his skull too. We all want the best for our kids even when it comes to the shape of their heads. Not just for the physical appearance like if he would be an Olympic swimmer and shave his head but also for other reasons such as level ears for wearing sunglasses at night like his Mamma or to avoid jaw misalignment. Silas was fitted for his helmet a couple weeks ago. Silas loves to kick around so we ended up having to do the casting twice. It sucked, mostly because a stocking is put over his head, a whole cut out for his mouth and you can't see his eyes. Heidi told me about her experience with
Ellie's helmet so I was prepared and handled it better than I thought. As soon as we were done, I picked him up and he immediately stopped crying. Luckily my Mom came along and really put me at ease too. Don't we always feel better when Mom is there? I know I do and I think my Baby Silas does too.

Silas got his helmet 10 days later and he has been wearing it for 5 days now. The first couple days were a little rough. More on me than him. He didn't even notice he had it on but I wondered if it was too tight or bothering him. I know the first night he slept with it on I thought about it all night. So the first day he wore it he had a little pinkness under the strap area. We've been watching it and it seems to go away quickly so it's not to be concerned about. I'll take him weekly to get adjustments as his head continues to grow. I'm excited to decorate it. Ellie thinks we should definitely put stickers on it. Jack was funny too, he was pointing at Silas when Heidi got home that day. Almost trying to say, 'Look Mommy, Silas has a helmet!'. Ellie and Jack are so good with Silas. We cannot wait for another
baby Roberts.
